Belgium and Canada will take to the field for the first time in the 2022 World Cup when they face off at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on Wednesday.
Roberto Martinez‘s men are the current number-two ranked national team by FIFA and are huge favourites to come away with all three points against Les Rouges.
The Group F encounter will be just the second-ever meeting between the teams and a first at this level as Canada make their sophomore appearance in football’s biggest tournament.
Belgium ran out 2-0 winners in the only previous edition of this fixture which came in an international friendly at the Lansdowne Park back in 1989.
Marc Degryse and Jan Ceulemans were on target for Guy Thijs‘s side on the day as they breezed past a relatively inexperienced team led by Tony Taylor.
Since then, The Red Devils are unbeaten in five matches against North American opponents across all competitions, winning three and drawing two.
Meanwhile, John Herdman‘s men will need to do something they have not done in 11 years if they are to get off to a winning start in Qatar having failed to beat any European opponents since a 2-1 win over Belarus 2011.
