Jitendra Awhad News: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA and former Maharashtra minister Jitendra Awhad on Monday said that he has decided to resign from the assembly membership over the ‘fake’ cases registered against him by the police. Mumbra police in neighboring Thane district late on Monday night registered a case against Awhad under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on a complaint by a woman.

According to the FIR, the woman complainant alleged that Awhad pushed her while making way for him during the dispersal of the crowd after the Chief Minister’s program in Mumbra on Sunday evening.

Awhad, who was arrested on Friday, is
an MLA from Mumbra-Kalwa seat of Thane district in Maharashtra. He was arrested on Friday after he and his supporters stopped the screening of a show of the film “Har Har Mahadev” at a multiplex inside a mall in Thane city. He alleged that the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been distorted in the film.

An FIR was registered under sections 323 (assault) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC at the Vartak Nagar police station in Thane regarding this incident. In this case, Awhad got bail from a court on Saturday.
