Lynchburg, Va. – The eighth-seeded Jacksonville women’s soccer program fell to the one-seeded Liberty Flames, 3-0, Thursday evening in the opening round of the 2022 ASUN Women’s Soccer Championship.
With the victory, Liberty moves on to face the winner of Kennesaw State and Eastern Kentucky, Sunday afternoon at 1 PM.
Less than two minutes into the contest, the host Flames would find the back of the net off a header scored by McKinley Burkett, with the assist courtesy of Ivy Garner.
In the 38th minute, the Dolphins would be awarded a corner kick. Off the kick, All-Freshman Team selection Anaya Black would put a shot on goal for Jacksonville (6-5-5, 3-4-3), however the attempt would be stopped.
After battling back-and-forth, the two programs would head into the halftime break with Liberty holding a one-goal edge.
The two programs would continue their defensive fight for the start of the second half, however the Flames would strike in the 68th frame. Saydie Holland would stretch the lead to two goals, off a pass from Halle Engle.
Less than five minutes later in the 72nd minute, Holland would score her second goal of the contest, extending Liberty’s lead to three.
In the end, the Flames would hold on to advance to Sunday’s semifinal matchup.
