On Wednesday, in a Premier League match at St. James’ Park, Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron defeated lacklustre Everton 1-0 with a fantastic first-half goal.
Just past the half-hour mark, Paraguayan international Almiron smashed a shot from the edge of the box into the top corner to give the sixth-placed home team its fourth victory of the year and 18 points from 11 games.
Everton lost for the third time in a row, and despite having striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin start for the first time this year, they were unable to trouble the hosts with their play on the ball.
The captain of Newcastle, Kieran Trippier, told Amazon Prime, “It is a huge win for us. “Our current winning streak motivates us to keep climbing the league and challenging for first place.
“Despite our subpar performance today, we nevertheless managed to achieve the desired outcome.
“Since the gaffer [Eddie Howe] and I arrived, this place has been a good place to be. We’re doing quite good.
“However, we are still receiving the outcomes we desire from the last two games. Long may it continue
The only meaningful chance for Everton came from a corner, which Calvert-Lewin headed over after the opening shot from the edge of the box by Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy went over the crossbar.
After the first goal, Bruno Guimaraes missed the goal post twice, giving Newcastle the chance to lead by more than one goal at the break. Despite giving up most of their possession in the second half, Newcastle never seemed in danger of losing the game.
After an increasingly desperate Everton, who are slipping down the standings, host Crystal Palace the day before, Newcastle play their next game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
